NSF is the abbreviation for National Sanitation Foundation. It is a non-profit and independent organization specializing in technical standards and educational activities in the field of health and environmental protection. NSF tests products for safety defects and health hazards and, if the test is positive, awards the NSF certificate. The standards NSF places on products are significantly higher than those required by German or EU law, for example.
